Import & load
Every alphaTab session starts by turning a source file into an in-memory Score. The importer pipeline reads Guitar Pro (GP3 through GP8), MusicXML, Capella, and alphaTab's own alphaTex text format, then hands the parsed model to the render engine. This group covers every way to feed alphaTab a score, every format it accepts, the importer settings that adjust how it decodes them, and the load-lifecycle events you hook once the score arrives.
Every capability below is available on Web, .NET, and Android unless a card names specific platforms. Follow any card into the reference for the exact signature.
Loading a score
Load from a URL
`core.file` and `api.load(url)`; demo loads a `.gp` from `/static/files/`.
Load from bytes
`Uint8Array` / `ArrayBuffer` after fetching or reading; the pattern for Node.js and post-fetch pipelines.
Load alphaTex inline
Writing score content in the DOM or through `api.tex()`; demo with a short tex snippet.
Direct importer use
`alphaTab.importer.*` classes (`ScoreLoader`, `Gp7To8Importer`, `MusicXmlImporter`, etc.) for advanced pipelines that bypass `AlphaTabApi`.
Supported input formats
Guitar Pro (3 through 8)
One page covering every GP version, what each ships, and how alphaTab picks the right importer. Cross-links to per-version compatibility under `/docs/formats/`.
MusicXML
MusicXML support: part-group merging, chord diagrams, ties, track volume, tempo, lyrics.
Capella (CapXML)
`.capx` support and its scope.
alphaTex
alphaTab's own text format for authoring music notation by hand.
Importer configuration
Load lifecycle
Selecting and switching tracks
`core.tracks` for the initial render; `api.renderTracks()` for switching which tracks are visible at runtime (change instrument, focus on solo, etc.).
Reacting to a loaded score
`scoreLoaded` event, post-load setup patterns (apply styles, register handlers, adjust playback).
Handling load errors
`error` event, `FormatError`, `FileLoadError`, and what to render when a load fails.
